In the UK the east was always where the noxious industries were because of the prevailing westerly winds, so the West End would be where the posh houses, shops etc would be.

Stunning historical architecture - what an awesome photograph - this view was made to be shot in black and white - it does make me wonder how many city residents walk by these amazing locations and never give a thought to their history.

That's a fascinating photo of such incredible figures - the workmanship is amazing - what do they represent?

Beautiful black and white shot of that magnificent library in the darkness - but lighting up thanks to moonlight(?) or streetlights(?) - regardless, it looks fantastic.

Bit of the Saul Leiters in there; great work. I was sat in that seat on the bottom right yesterday.
Love Neil Gaiman, and he is so fitting for the dark side of Edinburgh. When I read The Graveyard Book I had visions of Greyfriars 🙂
Now, that is an awesome photo - lights shining in the darkness on the wet pavement - a lone person walking by on their way to somewhere - and how great is this - a Starbucks - open and ready to serve a nice, hot cup of coffee!

I like what they've done with the retail units on the left. Works well as a contrast to the STJ.
Great photo
Does nobody miss the old St James Centre? 🤣
